Glow Jewellery

Glow sticks first came on the scene in the early seventies and gained almost instant popularity with campers and divers. In fact they were actually developed by the US Navy for use in underwater diving missions, especially at night. You see, divers needed a lighter and more reliable way to see underwater than waterproof flashlights that would often run out of juice at inopportune times.

What exactly is a glow stick? Well, it is really nothing more than a plastic stick that contains certain substances that produce light thorough a chemical reaction. These items can be used by just about anyone, since they are non-toxic and they do not produce any heat. Millions of them are sold each year all over the world.

And although glow sticks still lead the market companies have started to produce numerous glow in the dark items based on the chemical reaction that the glow stick utilises. One of the most popular new additions to the glow in the dark industry is glow jewellery. We are talking about glow bracelets , earrings, necklaces, watches and broaches. (more...)

Fancy Watches, For the Guy Who Has Everything

Fashion watches are proving to be one of the most popular gifts for fathers day and good quality watches too. In years gone buy we used to wear Timex or Seiko watches but these days brands such as DKNY, Guess, IWC are more the norm. The Watch Guy is the online helping hand where you can find more fashion and high end, collectable watches than any other single place I've seen. Well worth a look.

A Girls Best Friend

Is it me, or do other women feel naked without their jewellery? Over the years, our favourites become like old friends, to be worn in good times and in bad times. They keep us looking good when all around us fails.

Take a watch for example. For years I alternated with watches. I bought them as fashion accessories and wore them whenever I felt like it. Then I discovered 'the one'. Expensive, more than I had ever spent on anything before apart from a car and a house. But it felt right.

Now this faithful watch has served me, as the only one, for over five years. The amazing thing is that I always feel good in it. I have probably saved money over the years as I have never felt the need to buy another watch. (more...)

Christmas in the UK

Sure they're kitschy, but most people love specifically Christmas jewelry. And no other holiday can compete with Christmas. The sheer number of celebrants and symbols, both secular and religious, are beyond compare. As a religious holiday, the devout often wear jeweled crucifixes around their necks.

But Christmas is arguably more popular as a secular holiday than it is as the birthday of Jesus Christ. Secular symbols like Christmas trees, wreaths, candy canes, reindeer, and Father Christmas are everywhere in Christmas jewelry displayed prominently during the Christmas season.

What about Christmas Jewelry Christmas earrings and pins? Holiday jewelry is not surprisingly more popular with women than with men. Although, it is not at all uncommon for a man to wear a festive Christmas pin on his red or green holiday sweater. Of course, jewelry for women are far more elaborate and acceptable. (more...)

Jewellery for Children

It is becoming very popular to buy jewellery for children, especially for little girls. It may seem a little strange talking about jewellery in the same breath as nursery wall decor and nappies, but it can in fact be a good investment for the future.

Many people like to buy jewellery for babies either as a birth present or a Christening gift as they want something which the child can wear in future years and which will hopefully go up in value, unlike most types of gifts.

Small silver bracelets are very popular and you can buy ones for small children which are expandable so it can be worn at many stages of the child's life and even handed down to their children and grandchildren. (more...)

Safely Storing Your Jewelry

There is much controversy over how the owners of expensive items of jewellery should store their possessions. With crime ubiquitously on the rise, it is important to find a means by which to keep jewels safe.

To start with, jewellery should be stored in such a way that it cannot be scratched. Most cases are velvet lined for this reason. If you're in the market for a new one, try to find a box or bag with separate compartments for different items – a place for rings, necklaces and bracelets.

It is also important that very expensive items, such as alexandrite jewelry or diamonds are stored somewhere in the home that is unlikely to be ransacked in the instance of robbery. Many people opt to keep their jewellery in unlikely places: kitchen cupboards and the backs of book shelves are longstanding favourites. (more...)
