How to Recognise Antique Mirrors

Mirrors have a special quality about them. They are engaging little objects in every way, people might spend hours looking at them, philosophers might spend hours thinking about them, but they definitely enchant us all!

Antique Mirrors have an added mystique and value due entirely to their age, craftsmanship and condition. Usually, in the case of any vintage items, the age makes all the difference. The older the mirror, the better it is for its value.

Rarity is obviously important in the case of any collectibles. Similarly, an antique mirror, if from a rare source, increases manifold in value and heritage. If both these factors are to be verified, it goes without saying that the source of the item needs to reliable and the mirror needs to be authentic.

One can say that their mirror is not in fact a recent produce of china but has been inherited from a great aunt and that it has been in the family for generations. But that doesn’t mean that it is true!

Collectors usually invest in antique mirrors only after the item has been verified by an antique expert. No matter what information one has, one cannot make a perfect judgement of the age, rarity and authenticity of antique objects. Not unless you are an expert yourself.
