Mezzanine Floor: The Jewel in the Crown for StorageLike most great ideas, industrial mezzanines were a product born out of necessity. During the Second World War when factories were churning out tanks, planes and weapons as expeditiously as they possibly could, there was a desperate need for storage space. Though it is not known who conceived the idea, it is likely that some harried worker realised that in factories and warehouses with high ceilings, it was possible to create additional storage space. Fortunately, the war soon ended and there was no need to store weapons in warehouses. But the industrial mezzanine lived on. In fact, these days it is difficult to find a warehouse or a factory that does not have a mezzanine floor . These mezzanines are often prefabricated and are a cinch to setup. Of course, if you are installing a large industrial mezzanine, which can add an extra floor to your factory or warehouse, you will need to order from a big supplier. What does a mezzanine look like? Most prefabricated designs include a system of stairs, decking or a catwalk, and support beams or columns. It is also possible to order a freestanding mezzanine for smaller applications. These mezzanines are often used in stores and shops with high ceilings to give employees extra storage space. Manufactures can even customise mezzanines for use in retail stores. Obviously, these designs look nothing like the huge metal structures that are installed in warehouses and factories. |
